East Coast Family Trip #6: Gettysburg National Military Park and Westward Bound

Still in Gettysburg and after we collected all of our pennies, we headed over to the Gettysburg National Military Park. We took the car tour through battle ground that lies east of Baltimore Pike.  We stopped on Culp's Hill to climb the observation tower.  The view from there was spectacular and worth the climb to the top.

Man, with all the cannons laying around, you'd think we're a nation of gun crazed freeks (Why isn't freek in my auto-correct dictionary?).   After our run through the military park, we started heading west again, and towards home.  The rain picked up again, mostly just some summer sprinkles.

By the way, is it just me or do all the houses in Pennsylvania look the same?

East Cost Family Trip #5 - Gettysburg National Cemetary

The next day we woke up from our crazy ice cream an mini-golf induced haze and headed over to the Gettysburg National Cemetary.  There were signs everywhere asking for silence and reservation.  Who where they kidding!  Silence pasha!  Reservation, unheard of!

Our saving grace was that many other attendees leave coins on the graves of unknown soldiers.  As far as the Park Service is concerned, the coins are litter/vandalism, so M & M collected as many as they good.

The coin thing is probably based on some Voodoo and urban legends that say if you pay off the unremembered dead, they won't come to haunt you.  I don't believe in any of that hooey.  Now if I could only get rid of this unexplained itch...

East Coast Family Trip #4 - Ghettysburg

After escaping the rain in Atlantic City, the sun finally came back out.  It was time to jump back in the car again, and head west, back across the Delaware River.  We thought we could bypass some tolls by crossing the Ben Franklin Bridge.  We were misled.  We also had to hit some surface streets in downtown Philly, which was just odd.

We got into Ghettysburg in late afternoon.  What else could we do but go mini-golfing.  Our first family MG outing was at the Franklin Square mini golf course.  We had to resume our competition.  So we headed over to Mulligan MacDuffer Adventure Golf.

East Coast Family Trip #3 - Atlantic City

The third installment of our 2013 family trip found us in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Contrary to popular belief, the sand is soft and won't stain your clothes too much from all the black stuff mixed in.

Best thing to do is to dodge all the street people, and head directly to the boardwalk.  That's what we did, and after walking past the strip club, we found ourselves at the Steel Pier just outside the Resorts Hotel (hey when you're 4 & 6 you can't read too well, and those outfits look a lot like swim suits).

M & M did have a bunch of fun playing in the sand, looking for treasures and building sandcastles.  These pictures are from our first night.  The next day was really rainy, so we spent most of the day in side.  We did take up some of the boardwalk, and went and saw Turbo at a movie theater.

Evidence of the rainy days we had in A. C.  Cloudy and down pours.  We went for a drive to find Ocean City, and ended up just driving for a bit.  Kalee did take the kids to the beach in the afternoon.  Kalee gave me a free pass to hit a casino. I just took a nap.

The night scenes on the boardwalk were pretty cool though. I wonder what it would have been like on a clear night, pretty spectacular I think.

In case you were lost on the way to the beach Curzan was providing some great directions.

East Coast Family Trip #2

By our third day, we were in Hershey, PA, home of Hershey Chocolate and the Hershey Chocolate World.  Besides the excellent aircondishoned mega candy store, we were also treated to singing cows.  Happy cows make happy milk.  Happy milk makes the best chocolate.

Chocolate Store and happy singing cows.  We rode the ride twice, it's free and has some really great smells!
We also booked some time to make our very own, computer engineered, custom, delicious chocolate bars.  We even got free hats and beard masks for those quarter inch long whiskers of mine.

From there we moved on to Philadelphia, where we toured around City Center, checking out the Liberty Bell, getting a drink from a drinking fountain.

The Philadelphia Club, meeting place of Philly's most rich and influential for nap time and chicken salad sandwiches.
